Hello! So I'm relatively new to NYC, live in Brooklyn to be exact, and I want to start backpacking/ camping the area around me. I want to travel only by public transport and my two legs. Sites have confused me a bit, so I turn to you. I know of Bear Mountain, the Long Path, etc but what trains/ buses would help me get there? Trying for quick two day trips or so... Thanks in advance
Answer
Take the bus to New Paltz - hike the 'Gunks - or Mohonk. Other places further north - but this is easy to get to.

Is there any really great camping spots with a view (not a campground)?
Tom
I live in New York and am looking for a place to backpack up to. Preferably isolated from other campers(dont mind hikers) and with a relatively short/easy hike under 4 miles. Within a days drive of NYC
Answer
100's but your going to have to get out of the car and hike to them. Use a trail finder
