Child Harness?

pawys1111

Does any one know where i can buy a harness for my five yr old for when we are in busy places.
I got one of the monkey backpack ones but just takes it off when he wants too.
Thanks
I dont see how putting him in a stroller will help him to learn to walk next to me.
And i dont beleive there is anything wrong with using a harness i like to keep my child safe thank you. With two children the harness was the best thing i have ever used it keeps him safe i know where he is and he likes it too. Just that he can take it off when he feels like it is the problem.
There like a seat belt in a car you might not need it but one day you will and can save his life.
Thanks for your comments and links but i think the ones shown are ment for smallet children and with the chest clip at the front he can still see it to undo it. And some are just velcro i can see that lasting 5 mins. I was hoping for something at the back of him.
I cant beleive people say becuase a child has a harness there treated like a animal. There a child they are still learning right from wrong do and dont.

Answer
I use harnesses but I don't like them. I have to use them because I have a seizure disorder and I don't want them running off if I have a seizure (yes the thought of them being tethered to their seizing mother haunts me). The problem with getting a better harness is that you make a better escape artist. I saw a really good one at Toys R Us with a chest clip. I would also try "Stay with me training". Taking small trips without a purpose (don't tell him that) to teach him the rules. Going to the library without the harness and if he steps out of sight, it is straight home and into time out. If he doesn't hold your hand through the parking lot, straight home and into time out. Three little trips a week and I bet the harness is just a precaution before you know it. (If he removes the harness, straight home and into time out.)
He will be going to school soon and needs to build some personal responsibility for his own safety. Make sure that you have hard fast rules that you can write down about going out in public and that the basics don't change (do not leave my side, do not talk to someone without me, do not touch anything, do not eat anything, always hold onto mom (mom's coat, the shopping cart) when in or near a road or parking lot, etc)
It is hard to do, but ultimately your FIRST job is to teach the boy to be a man. Teach the boy to protect himself, not just keep the boy protected.

I have a special needs child ..HELP please?

Lovelykiay

My daughter is 3 years old and has mild mental retardation. She has behavior issues that as she gets older I am unable to deal with. She throws tantrums when she doesnt get a doll or a toy.

The other day she threw herself in the middle of a walkway and refused to walk over her backpack being left in the car.
I have a 19 month old, a 2 month old and a 6 year old. She cries sometimes for hours because he didnt get a movie or to wear a certain dress. I dont know where to turn for help-she is in a half day program for special needs children and gets Speech therapy once a week in home. I need parenting classes to deal with her overwhelming tantrums and issues.

I do not believe in hitting and time out only works when we are home-I need help!
Thank you

Answer
Discuss this with your daughter's teacher. The preschool special education teachers are fully trained and qualified to deal with behaviors which occur with this age.

The teacher can help you understand the reason for the behavior as well as help identify factors which could cause it, escalate it, and most of all, eliminate it.
The both of you can work together to identify things which are reinforcers for your daughter and perhaps some methods which are successful in managing her behaviors in the classroom can be implemented at home as well.

The most important question to remember is that all behavior is communication. And the first place to start is deciding just exactly what message is she communicating with the crying (look at all the situations) What does she gain by crying?
What is the result of the behavior? Will she eventually get what she wants by crying? Somewhere in the past the crying behavior has been reinforced; in other words," it worked before to get me what I want, so I'll keep doing it. "

Parenting classes would be a great idea and I urge you to look for them. Often, the Special Education department as well as the Parent Resource Centers in the school systems provide specific classes for parents of children with special needs. The parent resource center might also point you toward community resources which can help you and your family and provide the names of parents of students with special needs who will "mentor' parents of younger children.

Your daughter's behaviors sound "typical" to me because I have been in the field for such a long time. I know how frustrated and tired you might feel, not to mention the hassle of dealing with the responses of the general public when these situations occur. I think it is wonderful that you are seeking assistance now - I wish more parents would do the same in the early years. The very best of luck to you and your daughter.

Backpacking Europe - Which backpack?

MRAE

My wife and I are looking for the perfect packs for our upcoming trip to Europe. We will be going from London to Athens in about 6 weeks during Mar-Apr-May, making a dozen or so stops along the way. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for backpacks for us for this trip. I am 6', 185 lbs and my wife is 5' 5" and 130 lbs. I am thinking I will need something in the 50-80 liter range (3000-5000 cubic inches), and my wife will need something in the 35-65 liter range (2000 to 4000 cubic inches). We are looking for sturdyness, durability, practicality and of course good looks, but only want to spend about $50-100 each. I have checked out a few hiking websites and read reviews on a few bags, but I would really like to get advice from someone who has experience with this kind of thing. What features are a must-have for backpacking Europe? Generally speaking, what is the largest size bag that I can carry on most planes? This is really important actually because I would like to avoid checking our baggage on our international flight as well as our two short scheduled flights in mainland Europe. Maybe someone who has have been around Europe can tell me about the backpack you used. I would really appreciate any help I can get! Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to be hearing back soon! Have a good day!

Answer
Airlines restrict cabin baggage to 22in x 18in x 9in (varies slightly) and 7-10 kg. Basically, it should be able to fit under the seat in front of you. Some budget airlines are very strict about the one bag rule, so everything you have (handbags, laptops, etc) must be in that one bag.

Here's an example pack. It's lightweight and the max dimensions for a carryon (though it's expandable to 50L). Unless I planned to camp (I'm guessing you're not based on the time of year) and hike extensively, I absolutely wouldn't take anything larger than this. I haven't tried this one out myself, but it looks ideal.
http://travelstore.ricksteves.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=product&theParentId=8&id=139

6 weeks of travelling is tiring, which means your pack should be as small as possible. My backpack is 30L, and my boyfriend's is 20L. Do yourself a favor, and leave all the extras at home. I bring enough clothes for 4 days, enough underwear/socks for a week and do laundry at the hostel.

Features I consider necessary for a pack:
-padded straps/handles
-several pockets inside and out for organization
-back panel
-waist strap
-double zippers so it can be locked

Need suggestions for ~$120 tiny lightweight digital camera using regular batteries .?

Sunhopes

Camera will be taken on a one month backpacking trip. Must be tough and very light. Thanks!
I would like to make it crystal clear that this camera MUST run on AA or AAA batteries. Thanks for your help!

Answer
The following three run on 2 AA batteries.

Nikon Coolpix L18
http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/nikon-coolpix-l18_product-reviews.html

Canon Powershot 580
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraDetail.php?cam=1152

Pentax Optio E50
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraDetail.php?cam=1158

If you can spring for an extra $40 ($160), I would recommend the Canon 590 is, which includes image stabilization, and many features you won't find on other entry level cameras in the same price range. Excellent options in manual controls.

If you go backpacking in Yosemite can you set up camp anywhere off the trail?

mrlexingto

If you go backpacking in Yosemite can you set up camp anywhere off the trail?

Answer
You unfortunately can't camp anywhere, but that doesn't mean you don't have LOTS of options in a national park the size of Rhode Island.

Refer to http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildregs.htm

Regulations of note:

â¢You must camp at least four trail miles from Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Hetch Hetchy, and Wawona, and at least one air mile from any road. Camping is prohibited in the Dana Fork of the Tuolumne River.

--> This means, for example, that you cannot came on the Yosemite Valley Rim.

â¢Choose a previously impacted campsite at least 100 feet (30 meters/40 paces) from any water source or trail.

---> Try to pick a site that requires a short walk to get back to the trail and water sources like the lakeshores around the park.

Camping in the Half Dome and Little Yosemite Valley area is permitted only in the Little Yosemite Valley Campground. Camping is not permitted between Yosemite Valley and Little Yosemite Valley. If you would like to camp in a dispersed Wilderness setting, you must be at least two miles beyond the Little Yosemite Valley campground (at or beyond Moraine Dome or beyond the Half Dome/John Muir Trail junction). Camping is not permitted on top of Half Dome or at Lost Lake.

Camping is permitted at backpackers' campgrounds near Glen Aulin, May Lake, Sunrise, Merced Lake, and Vogelsang High Sierra Camps. Each campground contains food lockers and group fire rings (fires are not permitted at Vogelsang).

---> Some heavy use wilderness areas in the park require that in order to camp in each area, you must camp in a designated camping area.

Beyond the above, the best bet for true dispersed camping is to head to the National Forest and BLM land near the park boundaries. Each has much less restrictions than a National Park.

Are you allowed to backpack and camp off the trail in Yosemite?

FOTA

For example, backpacking from Yosemite Valley to Mount Lyell along the Lyell Fork Merced River.

Answer
I know right where you're talking about and it's an awesome area.
You'll get the rules when you get your permit but yes, in theory, you can camp where you want. Although that's not the case for the first night on some trails.
Remember, you have to carry a bear canister. Non negotiable. You can't hang a bag.
And no fires over 9'600 feet,
This link will give you what you need to know. I'd suggest grabbing a permit in advance so you don't get screwed if you're going in the summer.

Answer
Backpacking around the world is fun and it could be extended if you have that extra money in your pocket. If you are a talented person then you can convert talent into money You can promote the place which you are visiting to make some money while traveling. You need internet for this where you can do travel articles or reviews on the paid traveling sites thereby you exchange some information with travel lovers.

backpacking experiences?

Jai Lee

I know this is subjective and it depends on where I'm going, how long I'll be there, etc.
I won't be going for a few years (when I'm 18 or so), so I guess it's kind of silly to ask this question in the first place. However, I will be coming into quite a bit of money soon and I'd like to use it wisely, so I've been planning. I am willing to spend a nice portion on backpacking.

I'd like to go for two to three months. I would want to be as safe as possible. I feel like I'd really enjoy the UK, so I'd like to spend quite a bit of time in Northern Ireland and England (the lesser populated areas, not just London). I want to make sure I set aside money to be extra, extra comfortable. I would end up buying extra things, drinking alcohol, eating out, etc. I think I would prefer staying at hostels as opposed to regular hotels. I understand it varies from city to city, but how much do you think it would cost per day under those circumstances?

also, do you have any backpacking experiences? do you live in europe?
what are the best places to visit?

Answer
At this time, backpacking hostels and eating out, expect 100 pound per day.
If you are under 26 this will be extra comfortable and will allow you to travel by train on tickets bought on the day (more expensive than bought in advance) and the odd taxi to a hostel if you arrive late.
When over 26 many costs go up and your 100 pound per day will not cover much luxerious things.
But prices will go up and exchange rates will change. That 100 pound per day is now $US 165, but can be a completely different number by the time you are ready to travel.

Hostels is good when you travel alone as it is mostly much easier to make contact with other than in hotels.
They are also a bit cheaper, but not as widely available.

I love traveling in England (been twice a year on average for the last 20 years or so) and have been to Scotland and Wales too, but not to Northern Ireland.

Do not plan to do too much, take at least a week for one country and extra time in the mayor city of that country, London rates a week of you really want a taste. You can spend months there and still not see all.
I would pick a few random hostels from the hosteling international list, (if you want to go off the beaten track) and look up the reviews or the internet pages for the areas they are.

I loved the Lake District, Exmoor national park (although I did not stay in a hostel there) and have visited cities, smaller towns and villages all over England I would love to go back to.
Remember that the UK is rarely warm, also not in summer, and that the tourist season runs from May to early October, that July and August are the busiest time but that weather is often better in May and June.

If you also want to visit Continental Europe, the same goes, take your time, select a big city, a smaller one and some nature or villages, or a beach resort if that is more your thing. There are many answers on Yahoo Answers about backpacking Europe, with or without Eurail (or Britrail in the UK) or InterRail which is for Europeans. Just search for them and they will pop up.

How do I charge my gadgets while camping for long periods?

Kalout

I do a lot of camping, and something a very commonly do (as I would assume a lot of people might) is bring along a cell phone, iPod, etc. On short camping trips I generally tend to buy a 24 pack of batteries and just use that with a USB charger, but on longer camping trips (usually about a week) I'll eat through those batteries within a few days. What's a cheaper solution to charge my stuff, as well as keep it as light and cost efficient as possible? (and the ability to get a full AC charging port would be great too).

Answer
I also own the Goal Zero Guide 10 setup, which includes a solar panel you can hang over your backpack while hiking or from your tent or a tree while stationary and a 4xAA battery pack (which handles 4xAAA batteries with an adapter). The Goal Zero's solar performance in bright sunshine is pretty good. I can usually fully recharge 8x AA Goal-Zero batteries (4 batteries at a time) throughout a single day in bright sunlight. Even under the cover of light foliage or hazy skies, the Goal-Zero can fully charge at least one set of batteries. Under heavy cloud cover the solar panel doesn't provide enough benefit to deploy. However, after a several trips I seldom bring the solar panel with me anymore. I find its more convenient, and more efficient in terms of space and weight, to just bring the Goal Zero battery pack and as many spare batteries as I think I'll need to recharge my iPhone or replace batteries in my other gear.

The battery-pack portion of the Guide is both a recharger for AA and AAA batteries, and a battery-driven power supply for USB-powered devices. Using fully-charged rechargeable AA or lithium primary (disposable) AA batteries, I can use this battery pack to recharge my iPhone from 10% to 100% and still have juice left in the batteries (about 10% for rechargeable AA's, or as much as 50% for lithium primary AA's). You can also use the solar panel to directly charge USB devices such as the iPhone, but I find that doesn't work well unless the panel is stationary in bright, direct sunlight.

Making the best use of your devices is a key to surviving long trips. As I mentioned at the start, I don't usually bother bringing the Goal Zero solar panels with me anymore. It's not that they don't work, though they are affected by weather and tree cover. It's just that I don't usually find it necessary to recharge batteries on the trail. I learned that between using my electronic devices sparingly and carrying a good supply of spare batteries, I have no trouble making it through a week with just a handful of extra batteries. I usually opt for lithium primary batteries because they provide more power and are half the weight of rechargeables, although the price does add up. I normally bring 12xAA lithium, 6xAAA lithium, and two spare camera batteries with me on an outing, and rarely use more than 4xAA and one spare camera battery. This is using the iPhone 1 or 2 hours a day, GPS occasionally to check and mark my location, a compact digital camera, and a LED headlamp and flashlight for a few hours each night.

There are some battery packs that can provide much more DC power, and even AC power, but these are far too bulky and heavy to bring backpacking (8+ pounds and the size of a large lunch box). Also, these types of power packs cannot be recharged in the field, they must be plugged into an AC power source or car cigarette lighter jack for several hours. So they are not suitable for backpacking (I assume you're backpacking, as otherwise your vehicle is an excellent source of power, either DC or AC with an inverter).

Light and cost-effective are relative terms. If you want the lightest setup, just go with lithium primary batteries and the Goal Zero Guide 10+ battery pack (~$36 with 4xAA rechargeable batteries). Lithium primary (disposable) batteries are about half the weight of NiMH rechargeable batteries and cost around $2/each. If you want cost-effective, the Guide 10 kit (battery pack plus solar panel and 4xAA batteries) can be found for around $90, and add a couple extra 4-packs of rechargeable batteries. Each 4-pack of Goal Zero rechargeable batteries costs around $14 (and you can use other brands, such as Sanyo Eneloop, at lower cost).

Based on my experience and preferences, I'd suggest the Goal Zero Guide 10 battery pack and either lithium primary batteries to save weight, or rechargeable batteries to save cost (and waste) over the long term. I'd only consider getting the solar panel if I was base-camping in fixed locations several days in the backcountry.

Is Justice/Limited Too a successful store in your area?

Brandy

The Justice stores for girls around my area are usually kind of empty (okay, very empty) They also keep sending A LOT of catalogues and postcard ads. Justice has had so many '40% off entire store' sales and their having another one.

I mean, the store is okay. The only problems are:

-Clothes usually too flashy/girly
-Shoewear doesn't seem to be very durable compared to real shoewear from other stores.
-Their school items (ie: backpacks) don't have good quality.
-Their catalogues have well...in my opinion...horrible "styles" as well.
-Check their website at shopjustice.com and their 'uniform'...What the heck??

So as an extra, do YOU like Justice/Limited Too?

Answer
It not very succesful anymore but back when it was known as limited too, it was succesful. Now, I don't know anyone who buys there. I loved Limited too but when it became Justice the stuff became tacky and everything became pink.

How do I . . .. .(School, Make Up, Clothes . .. . )?

Savannah

Our school opens at 7:00 A.M. and you can eat breakfast or go outside for Morning Recess. You must be checked in by 8:00 A.M. since that's when class starts. Here's my question:

How do I make my grand appearance? I'm arriving back to school and when I walk in, I want everyone to look at me! I love attention! Haha! :) Should I check in late? I don't want to check in late on the first day of 6th grade because I don't want my teacher to get the wrong impression of me. You know? It's my last year of Elementary and I want to make it count! Also, how should I do my make up? I'm allowed to wear what ever I want and I want to look perfect, especially if my crush will be in my class! 99.9% of my clothes are from Justice!

**Please do NOT scorn my brand choice.

Thank you **

Answer
Okay please do not listen to SuicideBlond. Do not wear that makeup in 6th grade. I am going into 7th grade this year and I don't even wear that much makeup. I will create you a couple outfits okay? From Justice :) Oh yeah and don't worry, it's alright to wear makeup. Just to enhance, not look like a fake clown. Haha.
And do not show up late. You want to make a great first impression! So maybe come around 7:15 or 7:30. Make sure you come in at that time at least!

MAKEUP: Okay try some little pink glittery eyeshadow. Maybe a lavender eyeshadow, or a light gold color. Subtle, subtle, subtle! But make sure it has a little bit of sparkles so it adds a little, ka-pow...haha. Add some cute tinted pink lip gloss, and maybe one little layer of brown mascara. I think that's good. Maybee a bit of concealer for any blemishes or dark circles.
I hope I helped you! And remember the outfits are only guidelines, you don't necessarily have to buy everything I told you :) I wish you luck in 6th grade! It was a fun year!

HAIR: Try some cute loose curls. Maybe do that front poof look. Maybe put in a cute bow that matches with your outfit. Those are nice looking. Maybe straighten your hair to make it look sleek and nice. Maybe get a new haircut for the beginning of the year too. :)

BACKPACK: Do not use a regular backpack. Use a cute matching tote or hobo bag. Those are in style now.

BTW: Don't listen to the haters. They are just annoying. You are not spoiled or a brat or anything like that! Don't worry about not being able to wear makeup! I was in sixth grade this year! Lots of people wore makeup.

What backpack should I get for high school?

Meghan

Hi, I'm going to be a freshman next year! I'm really nervous but oh well.(: I'm not sure what backpack to get... these are some that I am thinking about. Background: Blonde 14 year old female, live in Maryland, I'm taking all honors classes and usually considered sweet but quietly friendly, if that makes sense. :p
1. Which backpack is your favorite?
2. What backpack are you using?
3. Do you have any other suggestions/backpacks to share?
4. Where else should I look for backpacks?
Thanks so much!

Backpack A is http://www.tillys.com/tillys/variants.aspx?prod=205507426&ctlg=020_Girls&cid=1094&source=1&size= and I like both colors.
Backpack B is http://www.tillys.com/tillys/variants.aspx?prod=190517429&ctlg=020_Girls&cid=1094&source=1&size= I love the crocheting, but I don't know how noticeable it is.
Backpack C is http://www.tillys.com/tillys/variants.aspx?prod=195957249&ctlg=020_Girls&cid=1094&source=1&size=
Backpack D is http://www.aeropostale.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12793699&cp=3534618.3534619.3534623.3541050.3536159.1988359
Backpack E is http://www.verabradley.com/product/Campus-Backpack/1001727/defaultColor/Va%20Va%20Bloom/p/1001727.uts I don't know which print is best.
Everyone is saying tote bags, but I used them all through middle school, and I'm not sure I can find one that will hold all my stuff, I play soccer and run track, so for carrying my school bag to practice and games/meets, a backpack stays on better a tote will slide off my shoulders, and so thanks for the tote tips, I just think I need a backpack. (:

Answer
@Carolina W- okay can i just say really fast you're pretty pathetic for judging girls over what types of things they use to carry their stuff. do you really care if girls use a big purse? how does that effect you or your life? you're probably just jealous because it's cuter.

Anyway, I know I'm going to get thumbed down for this, but like the other person said, in my area it's mostly guys that use backpacks, most girls i know use purses and totes. I know so many girls that use purses and unlike Carolina said, no one judges them and they're really sweet girls.

A- I don't like this one very much :\ i think the top of it just looks awkward
B-This one is cute but the colors are a little bit boring, it would go with anything though!
C- I like the color but eh
D- I love this one the most out of all of them. just don't let people know it's from aeropostle though haha
E- I don't like vera bradley back packs. If you're going to get Vera Bradley, get a totes. The backpacks are just...odd looking

1) I like D the most(:
2) Probably a tote or a purse like I did last year. Or I might get a bag from Urban Outfitters.
3) Make sure it can hold all of your stuff!!!
4) Urban Outfitters has cute ones but they're expensive, but they do have good sales! Target has cute ones, Zumiez maybe if they sell them

Backpacks for High School?

Kassidy Sp

My cousin is going to start 9th grade. I was wondering if she needed to take one of those mesh/clear backpacks or if she could take whatever kind of backpack. Thanks :)

Answer
she can probably take any kind of backpack she wants! whats really trending right now is like over sized totes especially vera bradley! that is a really popular brand for high school girls. they are a little pricey but they always have a lot of sales and if you live by a vera bradley outlet i would check it out because they have phenomenal prices!

Algebra 2 help please?

brandon

I am doing Linear programming at the moment in Algebra 2 and its extremely difficult for me.

A camping supply company produces backpacks in two models journey and trek. The journey model requires 4 hours of labor, and the company makes a profit of 40$. The trek model requires 6 hours of labor, and the company makes a profit of 80$. The distributor will accept no more than 4 trek models and 15 journey models per week. What is the minimum number of hours of labor that are required for the company to make a profit of at least 400$ per week.

I understand how to graph it once I have the constraints, but I have no clue how to do word problems and my teacher didnt go over word problems in class but since we are in honors he wants us to do these. So basically all I need are the constraints and maybe an explanation on how you pulled them out of the problem. Thanks in advance :D

Answer
basically it is the same process as setting up any word problem.

and, quite frankly, your pride in knowing how to graph it once you have been given constraints, is totally useless in the year 2012. It's about as useful as being proud of knowing how to take the square root of 17 by hand without a calculator. Most high end calculators can also do that. You need to develop the other skill - that of understanding a problem and setting it up for your technology.

step 1, the variables:
T=number of trek models
J=number of journey models

step 2, the object function, labor
L = 4J + 6T

step 3, constraints
40J + 80T>=400
T<=4
J<=15

Maximize L = 4J + 6T subject to
40J + 80T>=400
T<=4
J<=15

pot it into your calculator and it will tell you:

Optimal Solution: Ll = 84; J = 15, T = 4

Tips for beginner backpacker?

rebexhugnn

I really want to get into backpacking and hiking because I've decided my life is too centered around the luxuries of suburban life, but I have no idea where to start. I have pretty much zero experience with the great outdoors, other than I run on trails a lot, because my mom has always been grossed out by dirt. I am not like this at all, I can sleep on the ground if need be and I'm willing to try anything it takes to get close to nature, but I really need help in figuring out where to go, what to bring, and how much weight I should carry.

So far I have a very small CamelBak that I used for marching band and I think it would be perfect for a day hike (the 2011 mini mule), but you really can't fit much in it. I also have a much bigger one that would be good for a weekend (I can't find the model, but It's similar to the 2012 luxe), a gerber mulitool, and a first aid kit. What else do I need? I also live around the Dallas/ Fort Worth area so do you know of any good hiking places near here?

To help with how much weight I should put in it, I'm female, 17, 5'6'', 105 pounds, and pretty good muscle tone. Thank you for your time, and all advice would be appreciated!

Answer
Backpacker Magazine provides a lot of information on gear that may be useful to you.
You have an ideal weight and height for backpacking. You must be in great shape.

Dallas/Fort Worth would not be my ideal choice of areas for backpacking, since I live in a cool mountain climate surrounded by many designated wilderness areas in the National Forests.
If you can get up to Colorado during the summer, then I suggest that you explore the Fourteeners.
You can come and join me, since I am on a mountain every week.
However, Texas does have a few areas that may be interesting for you.

As far as gear goes, I suggest a GoLite 65 backpack for you, about $100. Buy a Marmot Sawtooth or similar down sleeping bag or Sierra Designs DriDown, about $250. Go with an ultralight tent, $300. Get a sleeping pad, $120. I prefer Nalgene liter bottles over any CamelBak. You also should get a water filter, $100. A backpacking stove is very convenient, $100.

Backpacking is not filthy. You can boil water, use soap, and stay very clean when outdoors. It simply takes a little more time and energy for good hygiene when camping.

What do you remember from Kindergarten?

Violet

What do you remember from Kindergarten and what activities did you do and did you have a crush on someone, what was your favorite outfit? I remember I kissed a boy in the bathroom.

Answer
I loved kindergarten I would love to wear my dress that was black with red poke a dots on it and I had pigtails and I had my pink backpack. I don't remember me having a crush on anyone but I remember the first day I remember my mom leaving me there and I was crying but the teacher came up to me and told me I could color and I was fine. I remember at lunch once I sat at my table because they delivered lunch to the class And the other girl was eating from there lunch box and I only had a orange and the other girl had grapes so I stole her grapes from her so she stole my crayons it's funny now because she is my best friend and we talk all the time. Kindergarten was so much fun but it is hard when your 4 the writing activities was hard with the sheets where you had to write a word on the line. Last I remember me and the other girls would think boys had cueties LOL cueties now I am dating a guy it's funny how we thought boys was gross when a boy would come up to me I would run away and yell EWWWWWWWWW CUETIES!

What are some good tips for getting through an airport faster?

Bri S

I will be taking my first flight in October and I have only the slightest idea of what the hell I am doing, and if you have ever been through the Huntsville International Airport in Alabama it would be great if you could tell me how to get through it. THANKS!! :)

Answer
Sounds like your are going to Space Camp.

Several tips, I hope they help. I do apologize for the length. I'll assume you've never been in airport. Remember traveling is adventure-it both an art as well as science.

1) a) Look on your airlines website and see when they suggest you arrive at your departing airport. Remember the people are put on the plane 20-30 minutes before departure time. Departure time, is just that, the time the jetty is rolled back from the sealed aircraft and the engines are started. That means if you get to the gate at departure time-you be staring at the wrong side of a closed cockpit door.

b) Google the aiport you are departing from. The airport's website as well as sites such as IFLY.com will also have a recommendation for how early to get to airport. While your are there glance at how the airport is laid out and where you airline's check-in counter and gates typically are.

c) Take the longest estimate of the above and add thirty minutes. Add addtional time if the Department of homeland security has set airports to either a threat level of "High" or "Severe".

d) Do not use your additional time to park and walk to terminal. I mean for you to be standing at check-in counter at that time--not just pulling into the airport.

2) Plan ahead and print out your boarding passes as soon as your airline and your daily schedule permit you to. This is typically 24-hours prior to departure time. Print out at least two copies so if you forget one somewhere you have a handy spare.

3) If possible pay for you checked bags ahead of time. Print out the reciept (again at least two copies) and have them handy. The wieght limit on bags on most airlines is fifty pounds. Shoot for 45.

4) Use the "One bag there...two bags back" method. Try to go there with only one bag and your carry on. I always carry a folded up "sea bag" (I was in the navy. Sea bags are large heavy green canvas duffels with backpack straps that can fold up to about 1/2inch by 13inches by 15 inches) in my luggage. I put my dirty clothes in there while I am at my destination. My clean clothes stay clean and now I have an empty suitcase for all the stuff I pick up while I on vacation.

5) Make and list and organize your stuff carefully. Even something as silly and turning your blue jeans inside out and folding them saves room in a suitcase. Check out this site and experiment if your don't believe me. http://www.history.navy.mil/library/online/uniform_fold.htm

6) Make your carry on meets the size standards for your airline. Also make sure it light enough and manuveerable enough to sprint across the airport. Always have "tomorrow's change of clothes" in your carry on. Keep your identity documents, prescriptions, and tolietries in your carry on. The TSA has rules on how ounces of liquids (shampoo etc) you can have in your carry one. http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm Make sure you do not have any prohibited items in your carry on bag. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

7) You are not allowed to carry soda through security. It is a liquid and they won't allow it (there are exceptions for contact lens solution and baby formula etc). There is NO rule against carrying a empty water bottle. My wife and I bought one liter plastic kegs at Wal-mart. They security no questions asked. We fill them at the water fountain on the other side of security and either make tea or lemonade.

8) Laptops and CPAP machines must be physically inspected. So able to break those out for the TSA guys at the check point. Don't bury it deep in your carry on.

9) Wear comfy shoes that can be taken off quickly at the check point. Also ditto for any belts you like to wear.

10) After you check your bags, dump all keys, cell phones, coins, and any other metal items into you carry on bag. This prevents you from having to do it at the security check point.

11) Ensure all luggage, purses, laptops, have a luggage tag on them. The airlines have them at the counter when you check or if you want a fancy one you can get them at Wal-mart.

12) If you have to connect to another flight, look at that airports website or map. Know the general lay out of it. For example if you are flying from Providence, RI to Huntsville, AL on NWA-you'll change planes in Detriot, MI. You can go the NWA website or the airport's website and get a glimspe of what is where.

So here's the process in brief. The week before you leave, make list of things you need and use that list to pack your one checked bag (goes under plane) and your one carry on (stays with you). Your carry on should have a snack, an empty plastic water bottle, a change of clothes and everything you need for 24-48 hours after you arrive. (If you bags get left behind, you can wait for the airline to reroute them to you.) If you are carrying a purse and/or laptop purge them of TSA prohibited items. The day before your flight pay your fee fo

Baby Sherpa Diaper Backpack vs. Dadgear Diaper Backpack?

August

I'm looking for a diaper backpack, one that can hold my child's nebulizer, its not big and bulky, it has its own bag and pretty compact. I just want it to be able to fit in a diaper backpack preferably. Does anyone have any takes about the Baby Sherpa or Dadgear diaper backpack, as I read reviews on both being roomy? Please let me know.
Thanks.

Answer
portable nebulizers are no bigger than a book, so any backpack will work for your needs. visit any store that sells them & find the one that fits your needs & budget best.

Do you care what kind of diaper bag you carry and are you willing to spend a lot for something?

KandCsMomm

I have a diaper clutch for our 2 YO. All she needs to go out is a diaper or two wipes and a snack so I dont carry a bag for her. Occassionally I will use my one Coach tote that is coated cotton; it's a bit more spring/summer and I can hold tons in it for longer days out. But my clutch is a PPB Cake Clutch my hubby got for me last year. I think it was like $100. However it is also a purse. In the fall/winter mostly it is my purse as well as her bag (when shes not with me I take her stuff out and just use it for me). If you didnt know who made it and everything you'd NEVER guess it was a diaper clutch. it's black french cut velvet and tweed underneath. I am Due in dec. and want the bigger ba (trying to decide between the society satchel and cosmopolitan carryall if you have one to give me a review)! ANyway I am leaning toward the cosmopolitan one because it can TOTALLY be a handbag after the fact. And I would prob get it in black also. THe other style is more distinctly a baby bag and is an odd shape for a purse. These bags run about $325-$350 depending which style. To me I went through 4 $50-60 diaper bags in the first year our daughter was born because they kept ripping or they werent as functional as they originally seemed. ANd they are NOTHING I could ever use as a purse. I breastfeed so only need it for my stuff diapers, snack and a change of clothes. ANd I take exceptional care of things so it's not goin to be "runied" by using it for baby. I am just wondering if any other moms (given you are/were able to spend the money) would do so on a really goreous bag that can double as a handbag ect. Or what is the max you'd spend on a bag? I mean I cant see any woman turning it down if someone offered it to them; but i know that some women even if they had/have the money still wouldnt spend it. I LOVE bags in general and since I use the diaper bag as my bag then I want something I LOVE to carry. Before baby I would spend that much on my own bags; so being the only bag I carry I find no reason not tp spend it now.
if you look at the Cake collection not the orignial the 2 styles the cosmo clutch and carryall look very much like handbags. I agree the original collection with silk fab. looks like a diaper bag; but if you look at the Cake collection spec. then no they dont.

Answer
If I had the money for a large Coach tote, I would totally buy it. But, I have a really nice camouflage diaper dude from Nordstrom. It was a gift for my baby shower. It is less like a porse and more like a backpack, but I love it, and my husband doesn't mind carrying it either. I only have one boy and another boy on the way, so it helps that the diaper bag is very masculine. But, yes, I'd pay the money if I could afford a $300-400 bag!

What is the best quality backpack?

Grace

I want a good backpack that will last several years. L.L. Bean would be good, but I don't like their stuff this year. So something as good as L.L. Bean backpacks...

Answer
Check out Swiss Gear. Especially the Synergy backpack:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/732293/swiss_gear_synergy_backpack_review.html?cat=46

They mainly make laptop backpacks, but they are extremely sturdy and will hold up for a long time. I bought one at the beginning of the last school year and used it for the whole year. It still seems like it's new.

Kipling Large Seoul Laptop Backpack vs. Kipling Hiker Expandable Backpack?

Be happy

Ok, so I need a new backpack for high school. I am debating between these two:

the hiker:
http://www.kipling-usa.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2993395&cp=2999462.2999776&parentPage=family&cid=1148760

or the large seoul laptop bag:
http://www.kipling-usa.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2993398&cp=2999462.2999776&parentPage=family&cid=1152887

I like the rosewood color the best, but the red is nice as well.

So, here is my question, since I carry about 2 binders (1 inch), 2 books (1-2 inches), pencil bag, graphing calculator, tennis shoes and running clothes, toiletries, waterbottle, and lunch, which of the two would be sufficient, and in which color, rosewood or red?

If anyone has any experience with these two bags, please let me know :)

I also like this kipling bag as well:
http://www.kipling-usa.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11218244&cp=2999462.2999776&parentPage=family&cid=1132718
I believe the dimensions are the same as the large seoul backpack; I checked on another sight.

So, please comment on which bag seems best, why, how comfortable they are, and any experience with having any of these bags.
Thank you!

Answer
Okay, well if it was for me I'd pick the large Seoul laptop bag in rosewood. But since it's for you & you need to fit all your school supplies, plus running shoes and clothes pick the hiker in red. People gave it pretty good reviews.

Rent prices near Camp Pendleton CA?

Q. We are moving to this area in July due to military, and can't get base housing in this short time. We are on a tight budget and need to know of Oceanside, Fallbrook, San Clemente or surrounding areas, where is the least expensive without being ghetto? What are the average rents for those of you who have lived or live in these areas?
Sorry-not sure why it shows the question twice!

Answer
There are actually a lot of different factors to take into consideration here. I'll start with Fallbrook

Fallbrook- Under 1000$ It will be pretty easy to find decent rent here but youll find most the apts. available to be pretty torn up and trashy. If you are able to rent a home it would be better but only if your the isolationist types. Fallbrook sits in mountains and is very spreadout minus the downtown area. However the downtown area is not in good shape either. I always thought it was depressing to drive through there.

Temecula- Under 1000$/m It is a little northeast of fallbrook but its a really really nice little town. Great schools, modern shopping mall, clean and friendly atmosphere, and it has the lowest rent you will find this close to base i.e. I lived in a house on a golf course in Temec with two other people and including utilities I paid 600$/m. Now where your husband gets stationed on base could pose a problem for this though. If he is on the Orange County (North) part of base it will take him a least a hour to get to work and depending on when he gets off up to an hour and a half to get home. If he works on the San Diego County part of base (south) then this probably won't be much of a bother.

San Clemente- 1500-2000$/m By far your best bet for quality near CamPen. Right next to the beach, beach town atmosphere, incredible local dining and shopping, and it wont be as chalk full of Marines as Oside which is huge. I totally wish I moved to San Clemente instead of Temecula to get that real California experience. Bummer. BUT! It is really really expensive. If you can afford it you won't regret it though. Don't forget to take where your husband works on base in consideration. San Clemente sit right on top of the North side of Base one exit from the northern most gate.

Oceanside- 1200-1600$/m Everybody has a whole mess of trash to talk about oceanside but I actually think its an alright place. Its a lot more slummy feeling than San Clemente but it still has plenty to offer. Your a lot closer to San Diego which is nice if you like going there and it has a pretty decent beach with a huge pier. Plenty of places to get a haircut or stock up on gear. This biggest problem with Oside is the Marines. Eeeeveeerrrywhere you go you will see them. Usually in packs of 4 all wearing digital pattern backpacks with screamin high and tight hair cuts, aviator sunglasses, and talking on cell phones. They overcrowd the bars, restaurants, movie theater, and all else. Probably not what your husband is looking to be around when he gets off work.

Also, if your just a couple you might want to look at finding roommates. A lot of Marines do that and it allows them to live in nicer closer areas without gettin drained.

Any other questions lemme know :-) N.hesselgrave@gmail.com

Good camping spots in Tri-State area?

PDizzle

I'm right outside NYC, in NJ, and I'm looking for some good sites to go camping. I've only ever been camping at Kittatinny.

Kittatinny is ok, I like how rafting and such is easy access to the grounds, but I hate how you're so close to your neighbors. It's more like a residential area in the suburbs, where instead of houses you have tents. I want a more private camping experience.

Also, I like to fish and raft/canoe/kayak, so those are things I'm looking for as well.

Thank you for any and all help!

Answer
Harriman State Park is about 30 miles north of NYC just off the Palisades Interstate Parkway. They have group campsites that are only available through reservation with boat launches and such.

Harriman State Park is very large and offers a large expanse of woodland with many trails. If your looking for primitive camp options there are shelter sites on certain trails that have a stone lean-to shelter and more open land to set up tents. To get to these sites you must backpack in. Be sure to do research on proper backpacking technique instead of lugging all your stuff in the hard way. Remember, carry in, carry out. We don't want to see your garbage. Happy Trails!

Any NYC transportation that will take me near a campsite?

hell0iamsy

Basically, a bunch of girls are trying to planning on a camping trip yet none of us have a car so I'm trying to find a NYC transportation (port authority bus/LIRR/NJ Transit) that'll take me a near a camping site.

Much appreciated! Thanks

Answer
You could take Metro North up to Suffern, etc http://www.nynjtc.org/park/harriman-bear-mountain-state-park

Or you could take the LIRR out to the Fire Island ferries and ferry over or take the LIRR out to Mastic and take a cab down to either the Fire Island Wilderness or Smith Point Park. The Fire Island Otis Pike Wilderness is excellent but there are no campgrounds, you will be backpacking. Smith Point Park has a campground and there are camp grounds on Fire Island.

Answer
I've been camping and backpacking at Minister Creek in the Allegheny National Forest down near Tionesta, about an hour and 45 minutes from Butler.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/allegheny/recreation/hiking/minister_creek/

They have a small campground with picnic tables, fire ring and outhouse. If you follow the trail behind the campground about half a mile you can find a few backcountry sites by the small creek.

There's also another place to camp on the side of the road with the parking lot. I've camped right on the Tionesta Creek (great for a dip in August!) that's about a 15 minute walk from behind the parking lot (in the other direction from the campground).

You can also get a GREAT view if you hike up to the overlook and there is a moderate 6.6 mile hiking loop.

Great place to spend the weekend and be away from so many Rule Enforcers (although they do stop in once in a while).

Hope this helped that you have a great birthday!

Do you like to go camping?

I love camping!Im going in August in Pennsylvania

Answer
Yes... I miss backpacking, but with a false leg and a grandson it's not easy at this time.

We DO camp here on our ranch though... a nice 1/2 mile ride from the barn down to our lake / pond where we have a campground with 4 platforms for walled-canvas tents, a shower-house, bathroom, fire-circle, picnic tables, hitching rails and a place for our Chuck wagon.

Into the wild from NYC?

MusicSojou

Hello! So I'm relatively new to NYC, live in Brooklyn to be exact, and I want to start backpacking/ camping the area around me. I want to travel only by public transport and my two legs. Sites have confused me a bit, so I turn to you. I know of Bear Mountain, the Long Path, etc but what trains/ buses would help me get there? Trying for quick two day trips or so... Thanks in advance

Answer
Take the bus to New Paltz - hike the 'Gunks - or Mohonk. Other places further north - but this is easy to get to.

Is there any really great camping spots with a view (not a campground)?

Tom

I live in New York and am looking for a place to backpack up to. Preferably isolated from other campers(dont mind hikers) and with a relatively short/easy hike under 4 miles. Within a days drive of NYC

Answer
100's but your going to have to get out of the car and hike to them. Use a trail finder

VS Pink Backpack Question?

Cameron

VS Pink Backpack Question?

Hey! I'm a 7th Grader, and I know school is almost over, but I'm from Canada with only 2 VS Pink locations in the 2nd largest country in the world.

I'm fortunate to live near by one, and I need to get a backpack ASAP, as they get sold out REALLY FAST! I want a bag for next year, not THIS year, considering that there is only a couple weeks of school left.

This year Floral bags are trending, but I don't want it to be considered last year.

I'm gonna list a few options, and can you guys tell me in your opinion what are your top 3 favourites for a 7th/8th grader?

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, google the pattern to see for yourself hehe)

1. Aztec (Mint Green)
2. Aztec (Blue)
3. Blue and Black striped
4. Cheetah (without the studs, but who knows maybe studs will be in next year)
5. Pink and white Striped
6. Floral Bag (the one with the black background)
7. Floral bag (blue background)
8. Grey Crest Bag

If it helps, I go to an All girl Private school

Thxxx!

Answer
I've had a backpack from there that was pink, and literally it would always get dirt and stains from the dirty ground. No matter how much I wash it, it always ends up dirty. I aswell live in Canada (Alberta) where they have the PINK store. I would go with either the blue aztec or the grey crest :)

Does anyone hike/backpack/camp with their kids?

riversmom3

I have a 1 year old and I think by next fall she'll either be too big or too wiggly to be carried in the backpack carrier (Kelty Kids). Does anyone take thier toddlers hiking? Camping? Any suggestions? We go in the mountains of PA.

Answer
I took my son on his first hike at six months old, in a Snugli carrier, with a daypack on my back. A month later we went on our only backpacking trip using the same carrier. By the time he was 9 months old we'd switched to a Kelty Meadow KIDS carrier, which we used for two years for day hiking, but as my wife is too weak to carry the kid, we never were able to figure out how to go backpacking, unless I carried over 50 lbs, including the kid, which is too much for the Kelty Meadow.

We used the Kelty until he was 2 years & 5 months old when we tried to experiment to see how far he could walk, which was about 33% of the time, with 66% of the time riding on my shoulders, which wasn't very comfortable. So we purchased a Sherpani Rhumba UL carrier for our vacation to Hawaii, at age 2 1/2, weight 30 lbs, and he rode in that about 66% of the time on several day hikes. (I don't recommend that carrier because the stitching came out and we had to return it, but we did get a full refund.)

At around 2 years, 10 months he hiked about 75% of the way on a seven mile hike around Muir Woods NM, the rest on my shoulders. I don't plan to put him in a carrier any more, but if we hadn't had it in Hawaii our hikes would've been impossible.

We never had a problem with wiggliness. You are kind of torturing them if you keep them in there a long time, so we never did extremely long hikes, and always stopped and let him rest and play as much as possible, moving no more than 1 MPH over a whole day, their experience of the woods just as important as mine. He'd usually fall asleep in the carrier in the afternoon for an hour or two. We never felt the need to bring toys along to keep him quiet.

Backpack Hiking Advice!?

Hey

I am a teen girl, and I love to Hike! I am not too extreme at all...I mostly backpack. I have hiked the grand canyon rim to rim, in Glacier national Park. (just for some backround!) I usually backpack 10-15 miles per day. I have an opportunity to plan a trip for me and my mom to take, and I would like it to be 3-5 days long. Any Suggestions anywhere in North America? (prefrerably south because i have not hiked there recently!) THANKYOU!

Answer
You can ask for more ideas under the "Camping" category, since there is no backpacking category on Yahoo! Answers.

Backpacking ten to twenty miles a day in the mountains is very good. You are more experienced than many hikers. I usually do the same each week in Colorado on my days off work.

One of my favorite areas that falls within your requirements is the Holy Cross Wilderness Area. Other interesting adventures include a hike through the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area. A challenging adventure of mine during the past summer was climbing Windom Peak, a Fourteener, which involves taking a narrow-guage train out of Durango for a few hours, getting off at a flag stop, hiking a few hours up to Chicago Basin, camping a few nights, and attempting to summit Windom, Eolus, and (if you are very extreme) Sunshine. Another great overnight involves hiking up Harvard and Columbia or sleeping over at the base of Missouri, Oxford, and Belford.

Is it hard for a Mexican to get a tourist visa to Canada?

Ms. Lettuc

I am a 26 years old Mexican and I have been traveling around the world since February and now want to end it by visiting Vancouver for a week before I go back to Mexico for Christmas. The problem is that I am unemployed in Mexico (otherwise I wouldn't had been able to backpacking around the world for all that time) and own no assets there. I have no kids only my parents that live there and that's all. They are asking me to provide documents that show ties to my country and I don't know how since I haven't been there for almost a year. I haven't bought my lane ticket because I want to wait for when I get the visa.
I also don't have a bank account in Mexico. I only have a savings account from USA that I got some years ago (sine the dollar is better than the peso).
I don't have any job waiting for me or anything since I decided to do this travel before I settle in life. Will look for job and start my life once I'm back. Before I left I was working with my dad and uncle in their dental office. I didn't get pay slips or anything like that. I lived with them while I was there and they deposited some money in my USA account.
What's the chance it gets denied?

Answer
Really your only ties to Mexico would be your family. If you can prove that you are close with them and intend on going home there should be no problem. Since you have an American bank account that might also show that you do not intend to stay in Canada. The new rule that requires Mexican Citizen to get a visa to travel to Canada is ridiculous, just because a small percentage of Mexicans traveled to Canada and not want to leave. Good luck with getting the visa, Vancouver as with the rest of Canada is a great country.

Do I have to use an approved car/booster seat on Alaska Airlines?

lachburke

I am booked on a flight on Alaska Airlines next year with my 1.5 year old. He is flying on a full fare adult ticket not a discounted infant fare (usually 1/2 price). Both our tickets are points tickets (Perth through to Vancouver on Qantas then Alaska AL). Qantas does not require a booster seat for children in their own seat, even if they are under 2 (ie. infants) so I was not planning on bringing a car seat as I am travelling alone and will have enough to carry as it is. I read on the Alaska AL website that "children travelling on 50% infant ticket seats must use a booster/car seat approved for car and air travel". I'm wondering, given that my son will be travelling on a full fare adult ticket whether he needs the booster seat? What will they do if I don't have one, not let us on the flight? Or, shall I just lie and say he's 2 - or just board the flight with him in his own seat w/out booster and they will assume is is two and not longer an infant and therefore no booster required.

Answer
My 6-year-old has now flown on 242 flights and my 2-year-old on 40 flights. Mostly on Alaska Airlines so I have a bit of experience with this.

As a lap baby (unpaid), you definitely don't need a car seat. Some airlines like Northwest are real pricks about not allowing you to use one even on a flight with lots of empty seats. Whereas Alaska is one of the most baby-friendly airlines we've used and will let you use an empty seat for a car seat even though you paid nothing. I'll reserve a window-aisle combo (leaving an empty middle seat) towards the back of the plane to increase the chance of getting a free empty seat. IF someone does buy the seat between, they ALWAYS want to get out from between mother-child or mother-father passing a baby back and forth.

Without a carseat, you will need to have them in your lap for take-off and landing. They might want you to pick them up during possible turbulance as well. What you propose is no different than the unpaid lap baby who has an empty seat next to them. I can't imagine the flight attendents caring except during take-off and landing and then, (despite the physics involved), Mom's arms suffice. (or a car seat)

But I would reconsider your plan. Again, I've done this A LOT, and we try hard to BRING the car seat, not leave it or check it. Of course the car seat is safest in a crash, but Quantas has never had a crash and Alaska only loses planes about once every 20 years. More importantly, a child can sleep in a car seat much easier because it is sloped and their head is suported on both sides. And your arms will get TIRED of holding him for 18 hours of flight time. And if he gets into a total screaming, kicking fit about being overtired, jet-lagged, etc, you can strap him and pop in a pacificer. For some kids, being secured down helps at times. Sure, it is one more thing to schlepp through the airport, but you could always use a rental cart for $3 or call for one of those electric carts the old folks use. At 1.5 years old, I'd bring a Baby Bjorn front carrier so you can have him on your chest and leave your two hands free. One for the car seat and one to present tickets, passports, etc.

For your carry-on, use a backpack/rucksack. Baby in front, backpack behind, car seat on one arm, one hand free. I've gone through many airports and countries that way. So has my wife. Yeah, it is easier with two adults, but doable as one.

Try hard to save nursing or a bottle for climb-out and, less so, descent. The swallowing helps clear his ear pressure.

Theoretically, they can ask to see a US FAA approval sticker for airplane use on the carseat (they all have it), but any nation's approval ought to fly. And Alaska doesn't check all that often.

You'll need a car seat to drive with him in Alaska until he is 4 years or 40 pounds. And while airplanes rarely hit moose, cars and taxis do.
