Would it be weird for a 9th grader to wear this?

Alright, so I'm a freshman in highschool and I need a new backpack. Personally, I think this one is great and that it would be cute in a joke-y way if I used it:

my mother, however, thinks it's stupid. Who do you agree with?

Okay...I'm sure you were hoping for answers from other kids and not moms...but I have one son in middle school and one daughter who is a senior - so I've seen the gamut when it comes to friends / trends / etc. Now, I mean this is the nicest way...but I think the real the only question you should be asking is do YOU like it? Trendsetters don't wait to see what other people are going to do or say...they don't care. If you wear this to school, I guarantee that SOMEONE will find something snotty to say...and someone else will think it's cute, especially if you wear your clothes and accessories with confidence. When someone says they don't like something of yours, shrug and say, "Well I like it" and walk off. After awhile, other freshmen (a.k.a frosh) especially will really start to respect that independence, even if they don't admit it openly. People gravitate towards strong personalities. Does your mom genuinely not like it or is she just worried you'll get teased? I personally love anything different...not EVERYTHING different all at once (that just gets weird) but just some unique stuff thrown in. I think the backpack is cute and that the black is going to wear well, too (but that's probably another mom thing) lol. Either way, good luck in high school! I hope it's as fun as it can be (considering it's the dreaded "school") :oP

I would like to ask a question by following?

I don't know of any websites but I would try calling a nearby church and asking for assistance. They usually can help or find out who can help.

Also I would look up a weekly circular from some of the stores around your area as there tend to be some pretty good deals this time of year. Where I live right now Office Max, Office Depot, and Staples all have 1 penny spiral notebooks. Office max has 10 pencils for 5 cents and crayola crayons and school glue for 15 cents. Office Depot has fifty cent highlighters, binders and glue. Staples has 25 cent composition notebooks and rulers, and 50 cent retractable pens, mechanical pencils, and plastic school boxes. Many office supply stores are offering rebates on copy paper as well making a whole ream cost as little as fifty cents! Walgreens has 50 cent dividers and colored pencils, as well as 29 cent pens and two pocket folders are 6 for a dollar. Dollar stores are also a good option. The dollar trees in my area are selling Scientific calculators for a buck, and scissors in two packs.

The real expenses are probably school clothes/uniforms, shoes, backpacks, and lunchboxes (if they don't get free lunch from the school). You can save by buying gently used clothing and backpacks from thrift stores (And its not like they outgrew every last piece of clothing either), and checking out the clearance aisles for new shoes. Or if their old shoes still fit and aren't totally trashed sometimes a good spin through the washer is all it takes, plus maybe a set of shoelaces from the dollar store. If you do purchase new shoes I'd recommend getting darker colored shoes a half size big to allow room for growth. Dark shoes don't get dirty quite as fast and look better longer. Pay-less has some good sales and right now and Walmart has several kids shoes for $10-20 a pair. If buying uniforms is too expensive contact the school, often times they have extra clothes or know of someone who can help get clothes.

Best of luck :)
