Tote vs. Backpack for High School?

OmgItsHayl

I'm going to be a freshman (yes, isn't everyone, haha) and I was wondering if I should get a tote for a backpack or not. I'm in the advanced classes, so I think I'm going to have alot of books to carry considering the lockers are super tiny. In 6th & 7th grade I carried a tote, but that's because I didn't have a locker at the junior high I went to. I moved schools in 8th grade, where I did have a locker. But I just carried around a binder. Since I ride the bus with high schoolers, most of the girl's were carrying around backpacks. I already bought a backpack, but I can always just go to school and see what I see most people doing. Please answer!

Answer
First of all, congrats on being a freshman :) it's actually an amazing year, so much more freedom, and the older kids are usually super nice!

I was in the exaaaaaaaact same dilemma, and I actually carried around a tote for my first few months..
WRONG choice, for me.
especially since you are taking advanced classes, the tote will actually hurt your shoulder and it looks kind of silly if it's too bulky and you are walking around with it with massive books inside. it honestly doesn't even look that much better than a knapsack, anyways, and a backpack has tons more support, and if you can find a pretty one, they can look more styling anyways ;)
so that's what i would recommend, from experience .
also, the younger grades are usually the ones that use totes, anyways.. by the time you are done your freshman year , or before, many people just give up on the tote, because it's unrealisitic for the later years anyways.
some good (and pretty) backpacks you can find are at macy's, pacsun, west 49, and they are names such as Roxy, Hurley, brands like that
and you can find them for around $30, and they will last a couple years.

However, i am not bashing totes at all, because there are some really nice ones, but honestly, it's unrealistic to be carrying around all day ):

it's your choice though, good luck with whatever you decide & i hope you make the right deicison for YOU :)
