Can you ever be allowed to start open fires?

In the state of Pennsylvania, is there any way to legally have open fires? I'm asking because I'm interested in practicing survival techniques in the wilderness by backpacking or something along those lines, and would like to make it as realistic as possible. Is it even possible with some kind of training?

Answer
In PA you are allowed to have open fires while backpacking as long you are are not on NPS land and it is allowed in all state park camping areas of PA.. If there is a specific area you need let me know and I will see if I can help - I have lived in PA for many years.

I live in cleveland ohio and dont know where to camp. I want to go to PA off Pymatuning and find a cool spot but dont wanna pay the park for a camp ground. Any suggestions?

Allegheny National Forest should be your destination. Start by purchasing a lightweight backpacking tent, lightweight sleeping bag, sleeping pad, small stove, water filter, and backpack.. Then, plan for dispersed camping a few miles into one of the many trail areas or canoe campsites available in Allegheny National Forest.
