I bought a used internal frame one a while back, but gave it away after I couldn't stand the way it fit me any longer. Is there a way to find out what will work best for me without having to go in a store. I just want to get it online or on Craigslist.

I'm 5'6", female, athletic body, average body size. In case this is important in the decision in which one to buy.

I'm going on a 4 day backpacking/snowshoe trip. We're snowshoeing 9 miles in with a sight incline in grade the way up. (So no mountains this time).

Answer
Well Jackie fit is everything just as you buy shoes you should try a pack on before you buy, As another poster suggested you should go to a supplier of outdoor gear and try out for size several brands and types, read the reviews of the products ahead of time and compare feature to feature for value to your dollar. Buying from Craigslist your likely to get someone elses back ache so nyet to that suggestion unless you can find one you tried on and like, but the buyer still needs to beware. I will second REI as a good resource and also suggest Sports Chalet. Now is a good time to buy with holiday sales in swing!

Are Jansport Internal Frame Backpacks any good?

Im looking at a cheaper backpacking internal frame and came across a few Jansport packs. I cant seem to find any customer reviews on them. Has anyone had an experience with them?

Answer
Jansport makes a decent backpack, but don't expect the same level of quality and comfort you'd find in a North Face or Lowe Alpine pack. I'd put Jansport as a mid-level pack and generally only use them for short-term needs (OK from a train station to a hotel and that sort of thing). For any trip where you'll be hiking a good portion of the day, save up for a better quality pack. Your back and shoulders will thank you for it. You might check places like www.campmor.com and www.northernmountain.com They often have older, discontinued packs on clearance and you might be able to get a better pack for close to the same money as a Jansport.
