backpack camping yosemite image

i want to hike half dome around aprilish.
itll be about 6 people and we want to bring our own tent and camp at yosemite.
we dont want anything we need to backpack to. just something we can roll up in our car too and then be close to the half dome trail from there.
any recomendations on a site to sleep at??

I don't want to burst your bubble but the Half Dome cables were recently removed for the season. They won't go back up until the weekend before next Memorial Day weekend. That would be May 22, 2010. You should reschedule your hike because unless you're an experienced rock climber the cables are the only way up. See the following web page for more info.

The Upper Pines campground is a short walk from Happy Isles where you'll be starting your hike so I suggest you stay there. Reservations are required so you should reserve as early as possible. If you can't get reservations there try the other campgrounds in the valley - Lower Pines & North Pines. You may have to use the shuttle bus to get to trailhead. If you decide to do this hike between July and September you should consider using the Bridalveil Creek campground along the Glacier Point Road. 110 sites, no reservations required. If you camp there you can drive to Glacier Point and take the Panorama Trail to the top of Nevada Fall. You can pickup the Half Dome trail there. It's slightly longer than starting at Happy Isle but easier because your elevation gain isn't as great.

Where is the best place to camp Yosemite in early June?
Q. My husband and I are doing a road trip, and camping in Yosemite during the first week of June this year. We're from BC so we don't know what the weather will be like, busy times, etc...
Where would the best campground be for us? Just drive-in tent camping. The quieter, the better. Thanks! :)

All of the campsites in the Yosemite Valley have been reserved for months. There is nothing quiet about camping in the valley.
I like the Wawona Campground. It sits along the banks of a river.
Most of the campgrounds in the high country will still be closed in early June.
All times are busy times, but especially weekends.
I don't mean to sound overly negative, but Yosemite is no place for quiet and solitude unless you go backpacking. The waterfalls are spectacular in June. It is well worth a visit. Yosemite Valley is the most beautiful place in the world.
