Why are so many people against the backpack leashes?

I hear so many people say - "my kid isn't a dog"
So.... you love your dog more? You will take precautionary measures not to lose your dog, but not your child?
Young children will not listen to you every time. There are going to be times a child just takes off just because they are full of energy, or asserting their individuality - as experts put it.
I'd rather be safe than have a hurt or lost kid on my hands.

I was one of those people that said Leashes are for dogs, Not children. I have two kids and my son never ran around, When we were somewhere he was holding my hand or in a stroller. But now that i have a 2 year old girl she thinks running in the street is ok. She sees the neighbor kids doing it. Well we are planning a trip to sea world/ and six flags over Texas. And you can't keep them in the stroller the whole time. So for her safety and peace of mind we will be getting one of them.

How do you feel about moms that put their child on leashes when going out in public?

I think its sad because most of the time you can tell they are unfit parents who cant control their children
