Just wondering where a good place to go camping/hiking in northern TN/ southern KY would be. All the state parks around here are concrete campgrounds and offer little to no real hiking. I'd like something a bit more roughing it style if ya know whta I mean :)
Answer
Dear Hiker.
Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area.
This awesome park straddles KY & TN. I've backpacked there a number of times. Many trails are challenging, but with a payoff of great scenery and often it feels you have the woods all to yourself. You'll enjoy seeing house-sized boulders in the river. The good place to start and get current trail reports, is at the main entrance on the Tennessee side. check out the web site for more info. http://www.nps.gov/biso/index.htm
I'm going backpacking in the Smokies this weekend.

Ideas for camping trip locations? ?
oomps62
I'm looking to go camping with a group of about 10 people in early March, as part of a spring break trip. We try to go camping somewhere in the Southern US so it's a reasonable temperature. I'm looking for suggestions of places by anyone who may have an idea of a place that fits these requirements. It's a week long trip, and some of the activities we have done in the past include backpacking, canoeing, sea kayaking, rock climbing, etc.. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks.
Answer
Check out Tennessee State Parks, Great Smokey mountains National Park and Big South Fork on the TN/KY border. All have everything but the sea kayaking..............
