Is a North Face backpack worth it, and which should I get?

Digi

I live in Oakland, but can go to San Francisco, I heard they're cheaper in outlets, but I can't find any.

Answer
The North Face makes a decent pack. But if your looking for a backpacking/hiking pack, the fit is by far more important than the name or logo on it. Take some time, visit a few gear shops and try on several packs. Different packs fit different folks. You can visit the link below to review how to fit/size a pack. It also has links to manufacturer sizing charts. See the " A Guide To Fitting & Sizing Your Backpack" section. That way you don't look like a newbie when you show up at REI ... and maybe you'll know more than the salesperson.

Pls. help me pick a The North Face backpack. Isabella or Jester?

I need a backpack for travel and I'm considering the pink jester, brown/purple jester, black isabella and ivory isabella. My height is 5'5'' and not sure if isabella would be too small. All inputs are appreciated!

Pls. pick a color for me too. Thanks!! :)

Answer
If you need a backpack for travel, then get serious. If you mean business travel, then get one with a laptop compartment behind the main chamber. Black is your color. If you need a backpack for backpacking, then you need to consider liters of capacity. I have a minimal bag for short camping trips that is 70 liter. If you are going for more than a few days, you need about 90 liter. Regardless, you should go to an outdoor gear specialty shop and fit packs to your body form. Go Lite, Osprey, The North Face, Columbia, and others may construct the pack to meet your needs. Do your research of reviews on-line. Color should be the least of your concerns.
