I will be living at home and attending a private college. What school supplies do i need? Roughly, how much will books cost? Also, have any college tips or study tips? Thanks so much!

For school supplies, you WILL need a laptop if you don't already have one. It doesn't need to be an expensive one, but one that runs at a decent speed and that you can access the internet and write papers on. Other than that, just the typical stuff. A backpack, pens, pencils, a good calculator, and paper. And I would suggest keeping a separate 3-ring notebook for each class you take, and getting dividers to help with organization. With all the notes and homework, it's very easy to lose things if you aren't organized! :P
Textbooks are very expensive if you order them from the school, so don't do that! I always use half.com and amazon.com to order mine, and I can usually get them for less than half the price they would cost coming from the school. But do it as soon as your book list comes out! If you wait too long, the good deals get gone and you end up paying a lot more than you have to. And also, used books are your friends! You don't need a book that is in "brand new" or "like new" condition. As long as it's usable and isn't falling apart, it will do.
And the study tips. People have written entire books about the most effective ways to study. :P But I'll give you my methods. Allow yourself 3 hours of study time for every hour you spend in class. So if you are in a certain class for an hour a day, spend 3 hours studying for that class before that class meets again. And allow yourself a 10-15 minute break for every hour you study, because if you study for long periods of time without a break your mind gets overwhelmed and you don't take in the information as well. Don't let yourself get behind. Make sure you go home and review everything you covered during class that day and make sure you understand it. Things will go much more smoothly when it comes times for your exams! And don't spend all your time studying, and don't spend it all goofing off. Find a good balance between the two. Because if you goof off all the time your grades will drop, and if you study all the time you WILL go crazy. I generally study and don't hang out Sunday through Thursday and Saturday mornings, and give myself Friday and Saturday evenings to spend with my friends or my fiance. And even with my 17 hours of class and 12 hours of lab a week, it works out well.
