Answer
She will need clothes for all different weather, here are some examples:
- Raincoat
- Warm pants
- Warm shirt
- Shorts
- Tee shirt
- Tennis shoes
- Rain boots
Usually, they will require that she has at least one extra pair of clothes at school all the time but other than that you can just dress her for what the weather is that day, layers are always good too because she will not be under prepared but she can take clothes off if she gets too hot.
Some preschools provide lunch and others require you to bring your own so you will need to check with the school. She does not need a backpack but it will probably be handy to carry things back and forth such as clothes, lunch, and art projects.
Here are the basic academic things the other kids in her class will know but are probably not required by the school:
- Singing AND saying the ABC's
- Identifying some or all of the letters in the alphabet and knowing the sounds of some or all of them
- Counting to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's
- Adding and subtracting simple numbers such as 1+1 or 5-2
- All the colors, shapes, opposites
- Drawing simple figures like shapes, people, and houses
- Sharing, taking turns, and good manners
- Maybe starting to read simple words
- Putting on her own clothes. including tying shoes, buttons, zippers, etc.
- Using scissors
Again, these are the things she should know at her age but preschools don't usually require it.
She should be able to use the bathroom on her own, including wiping herself off, flushing, and washing her hands afterward. They will usually send someone to stand outside the door while she is going but she should be pretty independent and they will not help her wipe off. If you want to, you can teach her basic things about using school bathrooms such as covering the seat with toilet paper.
If you think she is not quite caught up I would suggest sending her to a family daycare, they are much happier and friendlier places for children to grow up but since she is going to kindergarten soon anyways I suppose it won't hurt for her to get used to it.
Good luck!
