Can I have some advice on backpacking?

Q. My girlfriend and I plan on backpacking through the USA. She's always wanted to do it, and I took a year off from school to go with her because I don't want her to go alone and it'd just be a great experience for us both. We've done the math and came up with a rough budget of how things look. We should have about $8,000 by the time we leave but we plan on being gone for a couple of months, maybe 4, 5 or 6. But maybe less. Our goal is to start in NJ and do the Northeast and then go across the north and do the west for a while. We both have family in the Southwest, so we plan on stopping there when we get to those parts. I guess my main question here is, what kind of advice do you have for beginners like us? What websites should I visit for info? What are the laws regarding backpacking, hitching, and hiking/camping and stuff? What kind of gear should we be looking at? Any and all help and advice would be GREATLY appreciated. This is our first time out and we know it won't be perfect but we just don't want to be under prepared for situations. The "Let's Go" travel series has an America edition; pick up a copy and make a note of all the hostels and camp grounds in the areas you'll be in. Do not hitch hike, ever! Not only is it dangerous, but I'm pretty sure a lot of states or local areas have made it illegal. For my big backpacking trip, I've been looking at www.altrec.com. I think your girlfriend will especially like them, because they have a backpack section just for women so she can find a pack that fits her form.

Like the other answerer said, do some overnights and weekend trips first.

Crysis-2 is a PS3 game. A special edition of the game is sold with that pack and nanosuit for $199.
Similar packs are made by dozens of manufacturers and can be found in any camping shop and many high street stores in USA UK Europe South Africa South America Japan South Korea Taiwan Australia etc. in loads of colours and designs.
That particular bag is designed to be a daysack or overnighter also used by schoolkids as a cool looking bag to take to school or college or just to be seen with in the high street.
It has a design weakness in the thin strap underneath fixing the shoulder strap to the base of the bag.
Don't expect a high quality of construction in bags made for a fashion market.
Much better ones are made by Vango Karrimor Berghaus Osprey REI and many more manufacturers with a similar design but better straps and of higher quality construction and materials.
You can find them in any camping shop selling good quality equipment in the USA UK Europe etc ...see the list above....or find similar but lower quality bags in hundreds of high street shops.
