What is the title of this book?

Ok, so today, for some odd reason I searched up Meg Cabot, an author. When her name came up, I remembered reading a book by her in elementary school. I don't remember what it was called. It was about this boy who got this device from... his grandpa, I think. It's probably shaped about like a leaf blower, in a backpack form I mean. It has this rod where, if you touch it to a picture, the device will take you there. The thing about the device is that it'll take you to the time at which the picture was taken. So the kid somehow ends up touching a picture in this magazine of a famous volcano blowing up. I think it was Mount Saint Helens, maybe. He poofs to the time and the place and he has to find a way to get home. Only problem is, he lost the picture he took earlier of his house along the way. So, does anyone know what this book is called? I'm pretty sure it's by Meg Cabot, because I remember it was kind of funny that her last name looks kind of like carrot.
