what will kindergarteners need besides a backpack? will they need crayons ,notebook,pencils,erasers etc.?

I am rolling on the floor laughing about some of the comments here! The school provides materials?! Where I teach, if the kids don't bring it, the teacher does or they don't have it.
The kids need a "nap mat"?! You have got to be kidding. Our kindergarteners don't even get a morning or afternoon recess. Just the 10 minute one at lunch. Gee- I wonder if that's why they fall asleep during class or act like they are crazy.
Our local Wal-Mart and KMart post lists of supplies requested by the schools. If you don't have that, try calling the school to get a list. If there are back to school sales going on and you can get a good deal on the supplies and you can afford to, I'd go ahead and buy the traditional crayons, scissors, glue/glue sticks, book bag. Then what you don't need you can keep at home or return to the store.
