I'm trying to convince some friends to get away from the world for a week and come hiking and camping in Banff National park (or another park near Calgary). What are some good routes or open camping areas near there. Even a book suggestion would be great.

Two books that I have enjoyed are 1)Hiking Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks-Erik Molvar (A Falcon Guide) 2)The Insiders' guide to Glacier Including Flathead Valley and Waterton Lkes National Park. Check the included web site for information on campground availability and videos. If you go to http://nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/backcountry.htm and scroll down to step 2 campground availability, click and you will see a map of the park with the campground locations for backcountry. And step 3 you will be able to access videos

Where can I find something like a camping supply expo?

I'm in Illinois, and want to find something like an expo for different new camping supplies. Idk if this even exists? But is there something like this at maybe a gun show or something? any suggestions are appreciated. And I know there are websites with tons of stuff, but if like to see it in person before I rush to buy.

Hoffman Estates has Cabela's. Bass Pro is another interesting outlet for cheaper gear, but not high-end equipment.
The best way to find demonstrations of camping equipment is to meet other campers either at developed campgrounds or on remote backpacking ventures. Owners of gear are usually very happy to provide you with recommendations and demonstrations of gear. If you are looking for backpacking gear, then Backpacker Magazine provides reviews. You Tube offers many demonstration videos. The Meet Up groups may assist you as well.
