Hammock camping, whats your setup?

agnotheist

I want to go backpack hammock camping through the rocky mountains. However I have no experience. I have 500 dollars to spend on equipment. Assume I have nothing to begin with. Ground up I need to know what to buy. Backpack, water container, hammock, hammock accessories, everything i will need. I just need some examples of what works. I need to survive mosquitos and temperatures dipping around 20-30 degrees. So give me specifics. Thank you bunches :)

Answer
Ok, well to be more specific hammock camping in the rockies is not the best of plans since much of the best countryside to hike in and through and too is above tree line which means a hammock will be useless. and in freezing temps impossible to properly insulate. Since you say you have no experience it is best not to experiment where other methods have been proven. I already suggested to you a very well known hammock that is affordable, in contrast here is a well known multi season tent it, costs more but will meet the need experienced on Rocky Mountain treks,

So lets go over the basics starting with a check list,

Most checklists are expansive you can and should adapt your list to the type of trip your taking by adding or subtracting gear that suits your needs but never go without the 10 essentials.

Now about packs, what type of pack you need depends on the length of your trek and the type of climbing you will need to do a one summer night over night-er you can get by with a minimalist amount of gear and a simple day pack will get you through. a week+ long trek to any of the 14ers and you will need a large multi purpose pack which I would recommend since some of these models break down to smaller summit packs. Many also have built in hydration systems which I also recommend. I have several different types and models,

For water needs get a purifier and use stainless steel bottles or the BPA free nalgen bottles make sure your water purifier works well with what ever bottles you choose. you need to carry a full days needs or more depending upon the distance between your water sources at least 2 liters of water per day.

When hunting I prefer an external frame pack and use this one

With general trips I have internal frame models and use this one the most

Cold weather you dress in layers here is an article about that

For mosquito's nothing beats deet based products the more deet the better the protection.

Answer
A whole body backpack? Like for hiking and camping? If they make those of mario, it would only be online.

If they sell mario backpacks in Houston, I would try Toys R Us and maybe walmart.
