At what age do you believe a child is too old to be riding in a stroller? Although I understand in certain situations it's a blessing,i.e. the airport, the zoo,if you want to jog but have no one to babysit.
But I have seen parents of children use a stroller to walk a block and half to the park when their children are notably older than three. My three year old refuses to ride in a stroller, and although sometimes it wears us both out, I'm glad he gets the exercise, chance to explore, and just gain a little independence in general. What are your thoughts on toddlers/pre-schoolers ( and in some cases 5 and up!) in strollers?
And yes, it does wear them down pre-nap time- good point!
Cristalle T :I'm not worried per se at what other parents do...I'm merely interested in opinon/reasons behind why people choose to parent the way the do.
Arrgh! I am not berating those who do use strollers! I understand their are a number of different situations..please don't take offense to this question!

I agree with you 100% There is a HUGE obesity epidemic in our country and I am afraid we parents are putting our children at risk! Once my kids started walking independently I stopped using the stroller on short walks and/or shopping trips. I knew this one girl who was 4 years old and STILL in a stroller, quite the chunk too! A child must learn to ENJOY walking and exploring! What fun is there in riding in a stroller every time you go out? If your child has the tendency to wander, get a cute little halter, they have stuffed animal backpack ones now. My kids are very active now and love to get out and go. (I still use a stroller with my youngest one when on long trips though)

Here are some things that have worked for us. Ask your church and/or other churches to put a notice in the bulletin askiog ppl to bring donations the next Sunday. This can also be done with any Sunday school class, school class, civic group, apartment building, workplace, etc. You need an OK from the leadership and a specific time frame for the donations to be made and a large cardboard box with a nice sigh. It's a good idea if you are also present or have someone present at the drop off location so it doesn't become a help yourself rather than a give situation. We have also arranged with the manager of a local store to be able to set up a table in front of the store with a box for donations. You want to give ppl some ideas what to donate like stuffed animals for sheletr kids, backpacks for shelter kids, shampoo and tolieteries for homeless women,, etc. You could also put on a concert, singing, show, sportong event etc and ask ppl to bring a stuffed animal or a can of food etc as the price of admission. Some groups haqve done car washes that way or to raise money and then bought the items to be donated. Another idea is doing something like The Great $1 Challenge http://caringhandsmin.tripod.com/id14.html
Generally the best way to get someone to do something is to come out and ask them. It will be helpful if you either get an organization to help sponsor the drive or let ppl know what specific shelter the things will go to. They can still be given anonomously. In most places you would not need any kind opf special licensing to do this but check with your local PD if you are going to make it a public drive like at the supermarket just to be sure.
