How would I put paint on my backpack?

Girls at my school take a black backpack and take like 3 neon colors of tubes of fabric paint and kind of splater it on. How could i do that but not make it look too messy?

take a plastic ruler that's elastic enough , put a generous quantity of paint on it and catapult the paint onto the backpack :)
