I'm 14 and going into high school. I'm really nervous lol, and I kinda just want to blend and not stick out. Don't say 'oh be yourself and no one will care' because honestly teenagers are mean and yeah. I'm already unpopular because I was new and I'm not too attractive. Whatever. .-.
Anyway.
I live in Florida, by the beach, in a richer almost suburb sorta town, if that matters. I'm going to high school on August 19th, and I wanted to know if I should order a backpack. I was gonna get a solid black Jansport, which is $35. My mom is being nice enough to buy me a new backpack again this year, and I don't want to waste her money.

It's a public school. Most people here are mid - upper middle class. The lockers for Freshman are like shallow, tiny cubes. You could barely fit like, 2 textbooks in there, I'd say. No study hall either.
Ha these answers are making me feel a lot better about the backpack. I like backpacks, not a fan of purses.

I'm going to be a junior this year, for freshman and sophomore year I used the same backpack but this year it's kind of worn down so I recently bought a new one for this year (and hopefully senior year!). At my school it doesn't really matter too much a lot of girls use backpacks and a lot use totes/purses. No one really cares here. My freshman/sophomore backpack was a skull candy brand and a lot of the boys would comment on it because they liked it....
Jansport is good brand, a lot of kids at my school use them. I think you might regret getting solid black later though, it's okay to express your self a little! You don't have to get some ridiculous pattern but a little color never hurt :)
A lot of kids at my school got a solid color like pink, blue, green, orange and they'd write/draw stuff on them with sharpies threw out the year... I thought that was kind of cool haha

I want to get this backpack for my first year in highschool and my guy friend is getting one in khaki and I want one in teal.. I'm afraid if people will mock me wearing a "guy backpack".. I go to a private school and I wear a red sweater and a kilt.. Will it look fine on me? Thanks

Yup! I just bought one in olive green and I absolutely love it. Girls around here wear them all the time because they're made for utility and style, and they're not those tiny little backpacks that are only made for girls. Herschel bags in general are all great though.
