Are there even Pentecostals in the boy scouts?

Answer
Personally, I believe Royal Rangers is better for a Pentecostal kid then Boy Scouts, not because Boy Scouts isn't good or beneficial to certain groups of boys, but it doesn't appeal to all boys. Boy Scouts is first and foremost a scouting organization. They strive to be the best scouting program around. That's great. It has worked for them for over a hundred years and believe that it will continue to benefit them. Royal Rangers on the other hand strives to be the best mentoring program. We want to have activities and achievements that appeal to a wide variety of boys. Royal Rangers is designed to evangelize, equip, and empower the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders. We do this by building a mentoring relationship through weekly meetings and special events. Our curriculum is designed to develop boys in the four ways a boy grows: mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Royal Rangers is a fun and exciting ministry and boys will gain skills and knowledge that will last them for the rest of their lives. I believe that Royal Rangers is for every boy and that every boy can find something they like about Royal Rangers. We have over 300 skill merits where the boys focus on skills related to a single topic, for example camping, backpacking, hiking, high-action sports (white water rafting, rappelling, and rock climbing), the arts, sports, hobbies, and more.

I disagree with another answerer that states Royal Rangers provides boys with "'quasi-missionary training' with a good dose of Boy-Scout-like activities." That answerer also claims that Royal Rangers is single-focused in nature. While we have boys that have grownup to become missionaries, pastors, and evangelists a vast majority of our boys go on to work in the business world. Yes, Royal Rangers has built our curriculum around the Word of God where every weekly meeting you work on a Bible merit lesson and have a devotion to know God and to help build a closer relationship with God, but you also work on skills merits, leadership skills, relationship building with peers and with adults, and physical activity. Royal Rangers recognizes that the only way to build up boys to be godly men is for them to be mentored and trained by godly men. To mentor today's generation of boys, we use a wide variety of merits to appeal to the widely varied interest of boys today in the 21st century. In Boy Scouts, you must earn the camping merit badge (plus 20 other merit badges, 12 of which are required) if you want to be an Eagle Scout. In Royal Rangers in the new Gold Medal of Achievement (GMA) requirements currently being phased in, a boy must earn 4 out of 6 leadership merits, 3 required skills merits (Bible, Global Missions, and Healthy Body), all of the Bible merits (these Bible merits are different then the Bible skills merit, in that each Bible merit covers a single book of the Bible - half of the Bible merits are taught in Discovery Rangers and the other half is taught in Adventure Rangers) for the Adventure Rangers age group, the remaining 11 skills merits are the boys choice. If a boy has no interest at all in camping, that's okay, they can earn the GMA without camping for a single night. A boy can earn his GMA based on his interests. If those interests are sports related, we have enough sporting related merits that he can earn enough of them to earn his GMA that way. If a boy is interested in the trades, he can earn his GMA that way. If his interest lies in the arts, he can earn his GMA that way. If a boys is interested in scouting related activities, guess what, he can earn his GMA that way too. Comparing the GMA to the Eagle Scout, we can see that in reality Boy Scouts is more single-focused in nature than Royal Rangers, because even today in Boy Scouts, you must have at least enough interest in scouting to spend 20 days and 20 nights camping either under the stars or in a tent at a designated Scouting activity or event. If you have no interest in camping at all, it would be impossible for you to become an Eagle Scout. In Royal Rangers on the other hand, if you have no interest in camping at all, you are embraced for who you are and what your passions are and you can earn your advancements and strive for the Gold Medal of Achievement and be successful based upon your interests.

I personally believe, that if you are looking for a group for your son to participate in where he can focus on his strengths and interests, while learning the Word of God, and how to be a godly man that will grow up to be the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders, then Royal Rangers is the best option to choose.

Which is better for cooking gear propane or fuel?

Q. My family wants to start camping. We have a large family so we want to be prepared when we start our new adventure. Which is easier to use?

Answer
Propane is a better choice, since it burns hotter and doesn't need any special preparation like Sterno. I can't help you in stove choice, since I don't know if you are backpacking or will have access to a vehicle. A small backapacking stove cooked for ~12 hungry Boy Scouts and leaders on a backpacking trip, so they work (it took a while, but it got done) but two will be even better. Propane bottles also last a good long time, but do need to be replaced eventually. If you shake the bottle and there is no liquid sloshing around, then you need to replace it.
